Vocation day aims to attract the young |

The rector of the major seminary in Yangon hopes the Vocation Day event the institute is organizing will interest more young people in religious vocations.
The annual event, to be held Jan. 30, aims to give youths a better understanding of the Church and what the life of priests and Religious is like, said Father Hyginus Myint Soe, rector of St. Joseph Catholic Major Seminary.
We hope young people will be inspired by what they see and hear and seek a vocation in the Church, he said.
We will also pray for more vocations and the children many have good relationships with one another through the event the children from the parishes of Yangon, he said.
The Vocation Day was first held in the 1980s.
Father Myint Soe said the day will start with the Holy Eucharist by priests then a talk by a priest from the seminary. An exhibition highlighting seminarians activities as well as as well as activities by some of the Religious congregations will also be held.
The Vocation Day has attracted over 1,000 visitors in recent years, the priest said.
St. Joseph Catholic Major Seminary was established in 1957 and provides priests for the Catholic Church in Myanmar. Before it opened, seminarians were sent to Penang, Malaysia, for training.
It is the third institute of priestly formation ever to be built in Myanmar.
According to the latest Church statistics, there are 22 bishops, 757 priests, 1,800 Religious and 1,043 seminarians in the 15 dioceses of Myanmar.
